Apple Number Match Up Activity
We have been having a wonderful summer! I can not believe my kid’s just went back to school. I am not ready for the early wake ups and extra busy days. But I am excited about the Fall being right around the corner. I love fall weather and all things apples! When I think of the beginning of fall, apples always come to mind. With the kids getting back to school, finding fun learning activities we can do at home to work on certain areas, is on my mind. Number recognition for the number and word spelling is something both my preschooler and 1st grader can do. My preschooler is just learning them and my 1st grader is just reviewing to make sure he did not forget any this summer. I came up with a fun apple number match up activity they both could use. Great thing is I can also use these with baby brother too to introduce numbers. We all love the new apple cards and look forward to having fun learning.

How to make apple counting cards:
I printed out number 1-10 of the apple printable I made. I used our Scotch laminator to laminate each sheet. I then cut out each apple. Next I cut them in half to be used as match up cards. You could even use them as counting cards alone and not cut.
How we used in our Apple Match Up Counting Activity:
I placed the shuffled cards in a pile. I then had my son (4yr) pick out one piece. He looked at the half of card and called out the number. For the words I would get him to help count the dots to figure out what it was. He would match up the two cards that went together to make an apple. Ex: 5 and five go together, 1 and one go together…
This is great for him to start recognizing numbers and the spelling of numbers. It also allows him to practice counting by using the dots. You could even use raisins or beans and let the kids count out how many they need for each number.
For my older son (6yr), he breezed right through this. For him I would ask him to add or subtract 2 matching pairs of apples to make it more fun.
So many fun ways to learn with this one apple number printable.

I bought clipart from Poppydreamz. To use in a morning routine chart. I used the same clipart for this math activity.
