Meet Your Host Series: Confession

French future house pioneer Tchami founded his innovative Confession imprint in 2015. Regarding the label’s mission, Tchami told Billboard, “I want to help create a bigger picture for a song, an EP, or any form of musical project that Confession will be involved with.” The “bigger picture” has consisted of brilliant musical releases and remixes from artists such as Malaa, Mercer, Habstrakt, and other incredible talents.

We welcome Tchami, Malaa, Wax Motif, Matroda, Taiki Nulight, and Capozzi as they take to the Confession stage at Electric Zoo 3.0! Read on to learn more about this fantastic group of artists.

Tchami

Ever since Tchami arrived on the scene in the mid-2000s, he’s kept electronic music fans on their feet! The Paris-born artist is credited as one of the founding fathers of the future house genre. And hey, while we’re talking about fathers, Tchami’s aesthetic takes a nod at church with him often donning a clerical collar during performances with a backdrop of an altar and stained glass. Tchami helped us get through the perils of the pandemic with his dazzling 2020 debut album, Year Zero. We’re stoked to ‘go deep’ on a spiritual level through Tchami’s set this year.

Malaa

French masked crusader Malaa has had us speculating his identity since the beginning. We don’t know who *he* is, but who cares when you make music as alluring and danceable as his?! Known for his bass-heavy ghetto house and future house bangers (“Notorious” remains one of our faves), the Confession signee recently announced his “new chapter” on Twitter with the forthcoming arrival of his first-ever album Don Malaa, which drops in September. Do you know what else is in September? EZOO! Do the math and get excited because we might be among the first to hear gems from Malaa’s album!

Wax Motif

Danny Chien, better known as Wax Motif, proves on his debut album, House of Wax, that he’s a jack of all trades, seamlessly layering everything from hip-hop to melodic house. Though known as one of the key artists in producing bass-heavy G-house sounds, this Los Angeles-based DJ-producer has musical influences rooted in R&B, UK garage, and of course, house music. As an EZoo veteran, we already know he’ll bring the heat!

Matroda

The Matrodasound (as his fans have coined it) is a wild ride. The Croatian artist can flip any sample into a menacing masterpiece or an original into a party starter. With the new decade came the launch of his Terminal Underground label and his first EP, Jack The House. This year, he’s released one of the top tech house heaters, “Wasting Time,” chock full of sultry basslines and infectious vocals. Matroda’s seemingly effortless blend of tech and bass house elements makes him worthy of your listen and attendance at his EZoo set.

Bijou

Taiki Nulight

Brighton-based bass house don Taiki Nulight may be a newer name on your playlist, but he’s bound to become a household name thanks to his distinct producer chops. Heavily impacted by bass house and garage, Nulight manages to take such inspiration and add his signature touch. The aforesaid musical influences can be heard on his 2018 album Murky Manor. Living up to its name, the 11-track LP is a murky club-oriented soundtrack featuring collaborations with fellow EZoo performer AC Slater and festival alum Chris Lorenzo. Ready for Nulight to ignite your life?! We are.

Capozzi

Hailing from the Bay Area, rising house hitter Capozzi is on our radar for her stunning execution of tracks such as “Thunder,” “Hole In The Speaker,” and her most recent clubby number, “Turbo 911.” Capozzi uses her vocals over her self-produced tracks making for bass-heavy earworms we’re okay with playing on repeat. We are thrilled to have her join us this year!
