These Lake Oswego Schools Rank in the Top 10% in Oregon

With an overall A+ rating on Niche, the Lake Oswego School District is second to none. And according to the Oregon Department of Education’s 2010 District and School Report Card Study, all 10 schools in the district received “excellent” ratings, a rating given to just 124 schools out of the 1,253 in the state. And ever since, the schools have consistently ranked at Level 4 and 5, which means they are above the state average.

So it’s no wonder that the school district is one of the many reasons many are moving to Lake Oswego. And while the 2020-21 year might look a little different due to the coronavirus pandemic, the district has decided to move forward with in-person learning with a few adjustments, including reduced class sizes, spaced out desks and students remaining in one classroom as opposed to moving around their building. ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Forest Hills Elementary School

Grades K-5

Situated in the First Addition neighborhood, Forest Hills Elementary is an excellent elementary school serving kindergarten through 5th grade. The school received a 9/10 rating on GreatSchools and an A+ on Niche. Test schools at Forest Hills are far above the state average, which is a reflection on the effectiveness of their academic programming. With about 411 students enrolled, there is a student-to-teacher ratio of 18:1 at Forest Hills, according to Niche. Forest Hills Elementary School serves a large portion of Lake Oswego families, covering the majority of the northern portion of Oswego Lake.

River Grove Elementary School

Grades K-5

Situated in the Rivergrove neighborhood adjacent to Pilkington Park, River Grove Elementary School serves a large portion of K-5 students living in southwest Lake Oswego. The school received a 8/10 rating on GreatSchools and an A on Niche, and it has a student-to-teacher ratio of 20:1 with about 556 students enrolled. As a satisfied parent on GreatSchools said, “This school and the staff are excellent. The high standards for learning, respect, integrity, community, love of the arts, appreciation for nature and health that are modeled and taught in this school are impressive.”

 

Westridge Elementary School

Grades K-5

Westridge Elementary School Lake Oswego, OR

All members of the community at Westridge Elementary School are “committed to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment that cultivates empathy, creates challenging opportunities, and fosters lifelong learning.” The school is adjacent to Westridge Park in the Westridge neighborhood, just southwest of Oswego Lake. With an enrollment of 458 students, the student-to-teacher ratio at Westridge is 20:1. According to state test scores, 81% of the students are at least proficient in math and 87% in reading. The staff is focused on doing their best to enrich the life of each student, academically, socially and emotionally.

 

Oak Creek Elementary School

Grades K-5

Situated in the heart of the Oak Creek neighborhood, Oak Creek Elementary School is a well-regarded K-5 school. The facility is undergoing major renovations and temporarily met at the Uplands building for the 2019-20 school year. With an A+ rating, Oak Creek is considered the #1 public elementary school in Lake Oswego. Although the school is a bit larger with an enrollment of 565 students, they still maintain an impressive student-to-teacher ratio of 19:1. Parents praise the school and its staff for their communication with families and genuine care for the well-being of students.

Lake Grove Elementary School

Grades K-5

Situated in the heart of Lake Oswego, Lake Grove Elementary School serves K-5 students living in the Lake Grove community. With 405 students enrolled, the school has an impressive student-to-teacher ratio of 16:1. One high school student reflected on the years spent at Lake Grove with fond memories: “I have had both joyous and nostalgic feelings about Lake Grove Elementary from the days of being a student. But one thing I can say honestly is that the school staff is absolutely kind, caring, and amazing. The two aspects I’ll never forget about going to this school is the colorful, diverse, and eccentric group of teachers who’ve always connected with me, and the rudimentary teachings I obtained from the school that have supported me through most of my life.”

 

Hallinan Elementary School

Grades K-5

Hallinan Elementary School is known for its compassionate, creative and hard-working staff, supportive, generous and kind parents, and smart, funny and friendly students. Hallinan is dedicated to excellence, but more importantly, to children. The school received a 9/10 rating on GreatSchools and an A on Niche. With 475 students enrolled in grades K-5, Hallinan has a student-to-teacher ratio of 20:1. Hallinan is currently undergoing an extensive renovation, which will include safety and security improvements, classroom technology improvements, and seismic and infrastructure improvements, plus a new Innovation Lab and a redesigned library.

 

MIDDLE SCHOOLS

Lakeridge Middle School

Grades 6-8

Situated in the Rosewood neighborhood on the southwest side of Oswego Lake, Lakeridge Middle School is a three-year middle school serving grades 6-8. The school is currently undergoing extensive renovations, which includes updated bathrooms, gymnasiums, a library and much more. Lakeridge offers an inquiry-based and integrated curriculum focused on higher level thinking skills and offers a range of electives and extracurricular opportunities for students. Visual and performing arts options include introductory and advanced art, choir, band, orchestra, guitar and drumming, and “no-cut” after-school athletic programs include cross country, volleyball, basketball, wrestling and track. Lakeridge has approximately 875 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of 22:1.

Feeder schools for Lakeridge Middle School include River Grove Elementary, Westridge Elementary, and Hallinan Elementary. The school feeds into Lakeridge High School.

 

Lake Oswego Junior High School

Grades 6-8

LOMS is a three-year middle school located on the north side of Lake Oswego between Lake Oswego High School and Uplands Elementary School, which was closed in 2013. With an impressive 10/10 rating on GreatSchools, Lake Oswego Junior High provides an inquiry-based and integrated curriculum focused on higher level thinking skills. The school also offers a broad range of electives and extracurricular opportunities, including sports, drama, music, academic clubs and much more. Students are grouped into grade-level teams for block scheduling and maximum teacher support. With about 900 students enrolled, Lake Oswego Junior High School maintains a student-to-teacher ratio of 22:1. The school was rated an “Outstanding” school by the state of Oregon and test scores consistently rank amongst the highest in the state.

Feeder schools for Lake Oswego Junior High include Forest Hills Elementary, Lake Grove Elementary and Oak Creek Elementary. The school feeds into Lake Oswego High School.

 

HIGH SCHOOLS

Lake Oswego High School

Grades 9-12

The mission of Lake Oswego High School is “to foster an inclusive and well-rounded community of critical thinkers who are prepared for citizenship, college, career and life-long learning.” This four-year high school in northern Lake Oswego offers a challenging course of study aimed at meeting the needs of the predominantly college-bound student body. In fact, LOHS is accredited through the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges and is rated the #2 public high school in the entire state of Oregon, according to GreatSchools. They operate under an alternating day schedule with four 90-minute classes each day. The school has extensive extracurricular programs, including athletics, drama, music, dance, speech, clubs and student government. LOHS has an enrollment of 1,273 students with a student-to-teacher ratio of 19:1.

 

Lakeridge High School

Grades 9-12

Situated next to the Lake Oswego Public Golf Course just south of Oswego Lake, Lakeridge High School is an excellent four-year high school focused on promoting “a respectful community where each individual is responsible for contributing to excellence.” Lakeridge is rated the #4 public high school in the state, according to GreatSchools. Lakeridge provides a challenging course of study aimed at meeting the needs of their students focused on attending college after graduation. In addition to classes offered on an alternating day schedule with four 90-minute classes daily, Lakeridge provides extensive student activity programs, including athletics, drama, music, dance, speech, clubs and student government. There are 1,111 students at Lakeridge and a student-to-teacher ratio of 20:1.
